Although officially a Village, Freshwater takes on the appearance of a small country market town with it's long High street packed with shops offering a variety of goods from Antiques to groceries. Freshwaters' facilities include an indoor swimming pool and 18 hole golf course. Freshwater plays host to Farringford House, once the home of the famous Victorian poet, Alfred Lord Tennyson.
Down the road is Freshwater Bay, a small cove with beaches and from here, you can take walks across unspoiled down-land countryside, taking the Tennyson Trail up past the Tennyson monument and on to the Needles. The walks from the bay offer some outstanding views of the English Channel and the countryside.
